The EU DPP registry and battery passport registration

The difference between the central registry, passport hosting and registration responsibilities.

Registry and passport are different

The EU digital product passport registry supports identification and checks. It contains registration information and metadata; it is not the location where the complete contents of every battery passport are stored.

Hosting remains a separate responsibility

The responsible economic operator, or an authorised party, hosts the passport information. A registry entry does not replace the structured data, access controls, updates or continuity arrangements required for the passport.

Prepare the registration process

  • Agree who creates and verifies the identifier.
  • Specify who submits the required registration information.
  • Keep evidence of checks, authorisation and confirmation.
  • Arrange corrections and changes throughout the lifecycle.

Use the current implementation guidance

Registration details are governed by the applicable EU framework and implementation rules. Follow the Commission’s current battery passport FAQ and registry guidance. Do not treat a final confirmation click as a transfer of legal responsibility.
