KNOWLEDGE / SCOPE AND TIMING

Battery passport deadline and preparation timeline

What the 18 February 2027 date means and how to prepare models, individual battery records and responsibilities.

The passport date

Article 77 applies from 18 February 2027 to the specified battery categories placed on the EU market or put into service. The date does not automatically create a retrospective obligation for every battery already in use.

Prepare before the first affected shipment

  • Confirm your role and classify the battery.
  • Compare factory documentation with the required data points.
  • Separate shared model data from information about each battery.
  • Agree identifiers, QR-code placement, access rights and hosting.
  • Arrange validation, registration and an update process.

Check dates at data-field level

Not every requirement starts on the same day. Some data points depend on the category, another legal obligation or later implementation dates. Use the Commission’s current data-point guidance and the relevant legal provisions, rather than treating February 2027 as a single deadline for every possible field.
